boat behind
if you haven't listened to it, you're missing out. the new kings of convenience cd "declaration of dependence" is ridiculously good.
the family of things
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

victorian men? hotter than you would think.
an article in the new york times today talks about how men's fashion is leaning back towards the victorian era. sounds a little uptight doesn't it? that's what i thought until i saw pictures of what they meant...manly tweeds, hats, coats, awesomeness. check out these modern day victorian hunks.
lifted.
Beannacht
("Blessing")
On the day when the weight deadens on your shoulders and you stumble,
may the clay dance to balance you.
And when your eyes freeze behind the grey window and the ghost of loss gets in to you,
may a flock of colours, indigo, red, green, and azure blue come to awaken in you a meadow of delight.
When the canvas frays in the currach of thought and a stain of ocean blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters a path of yellow moonlight to bring you safely home.
May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And so may a slow wind work these words of love around you,
an invisible cloak
to mind your life.

poppies!
my absolute favorite color would have to be poppy red. that bright red pop is so inviting to me. i love wearing it, seeing it in rooms, on walls, in details, etc. i started collecting artwork that has this poppy red in it and i'm happy to say i have quite a few unique samples. for a splash of color on light and frolicsome's wall today, i've created a collage of poppy photos. enjoy!

jaw drop.
so i'm not usually obsessed with celebrities (except caleb followill from kings of leon!!!) but i must say that this series of rob pattinson photos made my jaw drop. seriously drop. there may have even been an audible gasp when i saw the cream sweater one. i like that he has a different look, is wearing an adorable cream sweater and has bed-head hair like whoa. also that plaid coat? every man should have one (well, at least the ones that can make it look good). i know i'm hoppin' on the teen heartthrob bandwagon but ma guh! he looks good. agreed?

give thanks.
wouldn't it be lovely to have a thanksgiving table with these fun pieces? dark blues and funky glasses...interesting bowls and a rustic wood table to eat at? i can only image the plates filled with mashed potatoes, turkey, gravy and cranberry sauce...
adorable and affordable? count me in.
anthropologie is one of my favorite stores BUT it's pretty expensive for the clothes you get. i love the style of their clothes and those fun, unique pieces that you can pair with target finds to create a style of art. SO when i found this Ruche store online, i was in heaven. all the fun, vintage inspiration of anthropologie but much more affordable. check out some of my favorite looks. the blue coat is definitely high on my list...and those ruffle shoes! my goodness think they're a fall must-have.

bossa nova binge: 1960s theme party
i've always wanted to have a party like holly golightly has in breakfast at tiffany's. people out of control, dancing, awesome bossa nova, martinis, laughter, etc.
doesn't that look fun?! in my moment of desire to host one of these parties, i put together a little collage of 60s inspiration. enjoy!

joan holloway?
so i've been wondering what to be for halloween this year. while i have an idea in my back pocket, part of me desperately wants to be joan holloway from mad men- sexy, vintage, so fun!
just not sure where i would find a dress in time AND i'm not a redhead. there in lies the rub.
maybe i'll save her for next halloween? this article definitely makes me want to try...

sonnet xvii
I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.
I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way
than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

i <3 minneapolis.
i have quite a love affair with minneapolis (my hometown and current city of residence). i'm fortunate enough to work for an ad agency that has a phenomenal view of downtown and is located in one of the most historic buildings in minneapolis- the mill city museum. on one side of our office we have a beautiful view of the stonearch bridge while the other side offers an outstanding view of the downtown minneapolis skyline. i love the lakes in minneapolis, the people, the history, the small-town feel, the activity, the music, i could go on!
one of my dear and best friends ali is heading to new zealand today for the year. although i'm excited and thrilled for her, i will miss her deeply. she loves photography and has exquisite photos (check em out here!) she has a few pictures of minneapolis that, i believe, capture the beauty of the city. take a look!
