first spring storm is fast approaching

When the rain set in we had nowhere left to go
so we just stayed in bed while the thunder rolled
there's a comfort in the rain, one that lovers only know
so we lay hand in hand while the water rose ...

Every season will turn til the world is upside down
rivers overflow then go underground
but in the eye of the storm, in the safety of this house
we lay hand in hand while the world turns wrong.

So keep us and keep us, keep us from the storm.

(lyrics from Peter Bradley Adams' "Keep Us")

the gaudy side of town

great song by GAYNGS.

You look for sun, I look for rain.

so i've been obsessed with Peter Gabriel's new "Scratch My Back" album lately and my favorite song on the album has to be his cover of Lou Reed's "Power of the Heart." so simple and beautiful. the line that really grabs me is "you and me we always sweat and strain, you look for sun, i look for rain." describes this relationship right off the bat- you get it. being a person that is happier on rainy/stormy days, i identified with this line :) the chorus, "the power of the heart" is also simplistic but so powerful. i just love it. enjoy the song.

Love note twist.

I have been wanting to do this project for the LONGEST time! Perhaps this spring I will finally get to it? Since spring is full of twitterpated people, new love possibilities and warm weather.

Ready for new opportunities.

On Waking- John O'Donohue

I give thanks for arriving
Safely in a new dawn,
For the gift of eyes
To see the world,
The gift of mind
To feel at home
In my life,
The waves of possibility
Breaking on the shore of dawn,
The harvest of the past
That awaits my hunger,
And all the furtherings
This new day will bring.

Vintage Color

I have been very into collages of color lately- not mix-matched color, but all the same shades or general tones. When I stumbled upon these photos I was just so happy. Makes me want to go to Hunt & Gather in Minneapolis and find some fun trinkets to make color collages of my own.

apples cinnamon muffins? delish!

How delicious do these look?!

Exactly what I thought. So, here's the recipe. When they're warm be sure to put lots of butter on them :) Delightful!

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
2 apples - peeled, cored and chopped
1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter, cubed
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Directions
1.Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease six muffin cups or line with paper muffin liners.
2.Stir together 1 1/2 cup flour, 3/4 cup sugar, salt, baking powder and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Mix in oil, egg and milk. Fold in apples. Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups, filling to the top of the cup.
3.In a small bowl, stir together 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour, butter and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Mix together with fork and sprinkle over unbaked muffins.
4.Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of a muffin comes out clean.

Dangerous Weapon

Hello again!! It has been ages since I've updated this blog. Haven't had the time which is such a lame excuse, I know, but my creative inspiration seems to have been sapped lately and I'm desperately trying to get it back. One of my favorite things about Minneapolis is the local music scene. It happens to be quite robust and chock full of talent. My sister sent me this new song by one of my local favorites, Storyhill (also happen to be alumni from my alma mater, St. Olaf College Um Ya Ya!) It is an unbelievably beautiful song and to see them singing together just made my morning. Enjoy :)
